Accesing The Land Archive *Postcard Series
Tourist shops all over Ireland sell the idea of Ireland as one of beautiful natural landscapes, shamrocks and leprechauns. The Office of Public Works (OPW) is Ireland’s government office which manages and oversees the continued maintenance and presentation of National Monuments and Heritage Sites. Sites such as Newgrange with immense and elaborate histories are converted into tourism centres where bus-loads of tourists are driven out and all individually pay large prices for tickets to view the ancient stones.
The: Accessing The (Land) (Archive) *Postcard Series investigates the phenomenon of online reviews of Irish heritage sites. By subverting the online review into an analogue postcard series (posted directly to their subsequent tourism office) it reveals the absurd nature and disconnect created by the internet, and how modern tourism and online review systems have resulted in expectations for nature to be both experiential and transactional.
